Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Warrior Group Revealed
The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team features Teor (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.
Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear unsuited, but the developments of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise started the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his own means, entering the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.
Casimir then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each member has a individual motive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as the companion and best friend, seeks revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
- The warrior and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
- However, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the team enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, Teor pledged a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- Thimble and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The healer defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.
This leaves them few options but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of the traitor.
Future Episodes
From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Questers and Strategists groups.
